実際に朝鮮戦争を戦ったマッカーサーの証言によってアメリカは日本が東京裁判で主張した「満州は共産主義とソ連を押し止める砦」が理解でき、日本に対するイメージは一変した。これにより、それまでなかなか進まなかった講和条約の交渉が一気に進行した。
そして、昭和26（1951）年9月8日に第2次世界大戦終結のため講和条約が日本と連合国48ヶ国との間に結ばれた。
アメリカをはじめ、交戦国すべてが日本からの賠償を放棄した。それはいかにも日本の無罪を認めるようなものだった。支那（中華民国）ですら1年後にしぶしぶだったが賠償を放棄した。日本が賠償したのは、戦場になり多大な迷惑をかけたフィリピンやインドネシアなどのみである。

日本の戦後補償

この講和条約締結によって賠償問題を含めた戦後処理はすべて解決した。したがって、今日、まともな普通の国の場合は、日本との外交の場において戦争のことは持ち出さない。過去の戦争の話をするのは支那と朝鮮（韓国）だけである。
